Northumbrian Clog Dancing

This is a traditional form of dancing from Northumberland and Durham. It originates from the coal mining history of the region, it is said that the miners had to stamp their feet to keep warm. The rhythms that developed from this became the steps recognised as Clog Dancing. Hornpipe and Waltz are the two most common rhythms to dance to, however clog steps can be choreographed to any style of music. Dances can be performes as a solo, as part of a team or on top of a pedestal (a two foot by two foot box, topped with reinforced glass!)
